My friend is a frequent user of Kazaa! that means lots of viruses, trojans, and ADWARES!

I'm trying to convince him to use ad-aware (he is goin to have a LAN party with some friends, dont think they want to get infected!) to get rid of all the junk...

ge doesent believe it's a good program because of the name but if some of u guys could tell him a little about it maby u can get him to understand?

I have used ad-aware after I installed Kazaa and Morpheus, and it was surprising the amount of stuff it found. I definitely recommend running that if you have Kazaa installed. Kazaa has a lot of spyware.

And by the way, I really don't think that the name Kazaa sounds any better than Ad-aware. It's not the name that counts, its the word of mouth referrals and reviews.

HiyaTiya,
I'm a computer tech that works onsite for business and residential clients. I use Adaware(especially for residential clients) and I think it works great. Last week at a client house whose kids use Morpheus and Kazaa, I ran Adaware and it found 281 New Components.Keep the reference files updated and run it often....

Yeah Ad-aware which is free is great. Tell your friend to get it. Or use Spybot. It's another adware/spyware finder.

Ad-aware ok.

PS. Kazaa Lite doesn't have the crap.

I'll bet your friend also doesn't use a seat belt, helmet while using skates/bicycle/motorcycle, condoms, or look both ways before crossing a street. Some people just can't get a clue about safety.

good one Dave :p

thx all! hope he'll listen to you!

titleist...281 new components????????? geez...i found 100 on one of my friends computers and i thought the program had went nuts!!

Ad-aware is the computer user's best friend! "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

If your friend decides to use or not use a program based on whether he like the name of it, he deserves what he gets, IMHO.

One tip, all other thing aside.
If you , or your friend, is having a LAN party, take another CLEAN disk and install all you need on that one. Leaves no mess afterwards on your own, and GIVES no mess to your friends.

HiyaTiya,

your friend take a look at this site.

It details many of the spyware, hijackware and other software that Kazaa can give you. This includes:

Dlder.exe (Advertising)
Cydoor (Advertising)
Fastseeker toolbar
Dw.exe (DiskWare)
Hot Text, Top Text, Ezula, ContextPro
Bdeview.exe (Advertising)
Ctbclick.exe
CommonName toolbar plug-in

and last but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST

Brilliant Digital software installed with Kazaa

"...Two days after disclosures that file-swappers using Kazaa were unwittingly downloading software that could turn their computers into part of a new network, Kazaa's owner spoke up to defend the company's actions.

As previously reported, Kazaa quietly has been bundled for two months with software that contains the core of a new peer-to-peer network. This software, from a California company called Brilliant Digital Entertainment, has been installed on potentially tens of millions of computers. Brilliant Digital plans to "turn on" this software in four to six weeks, tapping the resources of potentially tens of millions of ordinary PCs to distribute content or advertising or to run complicated computer tasks...."

Kazaa Lite reportedly does not have all of the extraneous software included.

Hope that helps.

I also recommend AdAware highly. If you are going to use software like Kazaa or Morpheus, you should also run AdAware often.

Even Internet Explorer contains a spyware called "Alexa" and Ad-aware will remove it, also. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

Use grokster. It is the same as Kazaa, it connects to the same users. But it doesn't have all the spyware, although it does have an ad thing (but u hardly notice it) [but it does occasionally popup ads]. Make sure you download the things off the grokster site to clean up morpheus etc. [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]

If your friend is using KAZAA, it is most likely that they have a trojan residing in their system. This could be or become a source of serious problems.

There is a 30 day free trial on a TROJAN cleaner ('THE CLEANER'). The paid version gives you updates. It is strongly suggested that you download and run it when trojans are a possibility.

It asks you whether you want a trojan deleted automatically or only reported to you (I did both, at first). I found a trojan from KAZAA named BDEData2.dll and removed it.

There is something quite upsetting about an univited piece of software that could take great freedom and liberty over your computer (spyware included).

If they wish to continue to use KAZAA, they may have to put up with CYDOOR spyware insisting to reload itself (if removed). Adware allows you to put it on the ignor list (config button). This means it will ignor CYDOOR as deletable spyware, while offering to nuke everything else.
