I need to convert a document from Word into PDF. The only problem is that the finished document (in PDF) needs to have the following dimensions: 5.25" wide X 1.795" high. I have no clue how to get these final dimensions for the PDF file. I do not have PDF software. Is there a way to achieve this? Thanks.

You can try with OpenOffice v. 3. I have not checked details, but there is quite a lot pdf export options here.

If you are using Office 2007 you can download and install the free Add-in "Save as PDF or XPS"

Then in your Word document set a custom page size to your dimensions. After this, when you do a save as PDF it should preserve the page size.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have Office XP (2003), and don't have the capacity to save as PDF or XPS as far as I know. I did download the version trial of Office 2007, and got the free add-in for «save as PDF» feature, but it does not appear to work. If there is such a feature for Office XP (2003), I would be interested to get the link, as this might solve my problem. In any case, thanks again!

Did you try searching in www.microsoft.com?

I have searched their website, and was unable to find an add-in by Microsoft for Office XP 2003. Thanks for the suggestion.

You could try the Billzip PDF printer. It has a lot more settings than other PDF printers I've used. I was able to set a custom paper size but it didn't seem to work. You may have better results.

hey, jeff, thanks for the lead. For some reason, i am unable to download the software... when i try to do so, i am getting an error message that won't allow me to download...

thanks, combo. I've downloaded OpenOffice v.3. Its Text software does not appear to provide the dimensions of the text. But it was worth the try.

I haven't tried this, but can't you set the dimensions in Word and then print to pdf using freeware like cutepdf.com?

Huh, Since Bullzip has more options than CutePDF and it didn't work for me in Bullzip I just assumed it wouldn't work with CutePDF.

This worked for me: Set the page size in Word and create the document. Open the printer properties for the CutePDF printer, go into Printing Preferences and click [Advanced], set the paper size to Postscript Custom and define the paper size to match the document.

(I use Bullzip for the extra feature that it lets you merge a printout with an existing document.)

In OO: Format>Page, set page size and export to pdf.
