Hello:
I heard and tried to convert wav files on my harddrive to MP3 using media player but cannot find out how to do this. I can convert from cd's to mp3 but not wavs on my harddrive I have on already???
Thanks Daniel

There are tons of free utilities for this. I don't recommend Windows Media Player, since it doesn't give you very many options to control the quality (bitrate).

Just go to and search for:

[tab]wav mp3 encode
-OR-
[tab]wav mp3 convert

You're looking for an encoder. A decoder brings MP3's back to WAV's.

A good one (the one I use at least) is called CDex, found at With it you can encode mp3's from a CD, convert CD's to wav files, or convert wav files to mp3, wma, ogg, and various other formats. It is not too hard to set up, has a good help file, and receives constant upgrades.
Best of all, it's free!
Hope this helps
