Hello All,

Has anyone gone through a conversion to a SAN. We currently have a F50 connect to a 7133-T40 SSA device but we are going to be switching to a SAN. Are there any concerns or issues that have arisen when switching over like that? Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Redwings

Hi

What do you mean by "a F50 connect to a 7133-T40 SSA device but we are going to be switching to a SAN" ?

Do you already have a SAN Setup running and you are going to integrate this system to it? Or did you mean NAS ?

If it is SAN, then I don't know how the SSA will be made avaiable to all the other systems. But I think SSA too has a Fiber port and you can connect to a Brocade or IBM's own SAN switch. So I am not seeing any problem other than your other applications...

Redwings - If there is enough free space on the bus and your volume groups aren't full (so you can add more disks to them) then the easiest way is to:
1. Add the adapter(s) for your SAN to the system (including device drivers and any other required software).
2. Acquire the SAN disks on your system.
3. Add SAN disks to existing volume groups.
4. Move data from SSA to SAN disks using migratepv.
5. Remove SSA disks/adapters & software.

If this is not possible (bus full, VGs full etc) then you'll have to go the backup/restore route.
