Hi,
I am working with PowerPoint 2002(XP) and converting to 2000
I have read the posts which confirm that saving in previous versions will bloat file sizes tremendously. I have disabled the "Fast Saves" and have disabled features that are not supported in 2000. I have also renamed files with each editbefore sending them to other people.

My questions are:
1.Is "disabling features not supported in 2000" enough? At this point, can I choose to save as "Presentation.ppt" or do I need to save it as "PowerPoint 97-2002 & 95.ppt."? The first option does not bloat file size.
2.Can PowerPoint2000 support mp3 files?
3. I am having problems with mp3 and wav sounds playing in their presentations after saving as older version. The multimedia tab in Custom Animations does not show the "Play" option, it is grayed out.
4. Does the person receiving the file need to save the sound file to their hard drive and reinsert it, then set up these sound options.

Sorry for the long post, but this is a major event which will be presented to over 300 people and I am so nervous. There are a total of 20 presentations and some are being given by the VPs in different departments.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am working remotely with several of the presenters and so we have been emailing back and forth. I have PowerPointXP and they have 2000. Ultimately, we will get together and then I can hand them a cd for the pack and go file.

Do you mean that the pack and go feature will prevent version compatibility issues or just that it will compact it, thus reducing file size?

Still not sure if just "disabling features not compatible with 2000" but saving as presentation.ppt instead of saving to "Presentation 97-2000" is a good idea or not. Any thoughts?
Thanks

ayalabina,

When you save a powerpoint file as just a regular "presentation.ppt" any version of powerpoint should be able to open the file. If you have used a feature (e.g. a new wipe/effect) that is not available the older version of powerpoint will just substitute what it has available.

By turning off the "new features" you ARE working the best way.

Saving a file as "powerpoint 97-2000, 95" is not the route to go down... as it includes a powerpoint 95 version. Powerpoint 95 files are not compressed in anyway... so they are huge massive enormuuussssss.

I'm not a fan of pack and go!

Cheers

Thank you for clarifying things for me. I feel much better now.

I have never used the pack and go feature before either. What don't you like about it?
Thanks

just download the respective PP viewer from MS and save yourself a lot of trouble.
