I have a job that I did originally in InDesign.

Now I want to move it to PageMaker, and it is going to convert from a four page wide spread to 8 individual pages with different margins, etc.

I was hoping that I could copy the text to the clipboard in Indesign and paste it into PageMaker. I don't care about the formatting the copy has been changed so many times on the computer that I don't have real copy anywhere else. Well you can't cut and paste the copy. Of course you can actually open a PageMaker job in InDesign but not the other way around.

The graphics I don't care about I can just place them from the original job, but how can I get the copy out of InDesign in a form that will let me place it in PageMaker?

When you copy and paste text from one application to another (whether it is MS Word, PageMaker, Quark or InDesign) you copy text formatting as well. This is invisible data that says what is bold, what tracking and leading is used, etc. Because of this extra data, these programs often refuse to allow 'pastes'.

I always do a middle step (#2-3)...
1) Copy the text from the original application
2) Paste it into Windows Notepad (or Mac SimpleText)
3) Select all and copy the text from Notepad
4) Paste in the target page layout program.

SimpleText and Notepad strip the junk formatting data and leave only the text.

Thanks I'll give it a try right now!

The tip by Jimoblack just saved me many hours of work. I never thought of moving text to wordpad and back to the app in order sto strip formatting. In my case this saved a ton of work when I brought it into excel for data updates etc.
