Hi
I wanted to convert gif image into jpeg in photoshop.
When i try to open the gif image, i receive an error saying the file type is not supported.

Can anyone help me in this please.. or if there is anyother software i can download to convert gif into jpeg without much changes

Thanks

My guess is that there may be something wrong with the file. Photoshop can definitely open/save gif files. Maybe it has the wrong extension and isn't actually a gif? Sorry I can't really help...

if it is indexed colour then try changing to RGB first - or could be an alpha channel?

Kind Regards
Duncan

sorry, i misread your post!

ignore me!!!

it 'could' be that Photoshop cannot determine the file type upon import. try open as... and select type of GIF then import the image

Thanks for the answers, but i dont seem to have option to import... It could be that i am using "Adobe photoshop album 2.0 starter edition".

This is the only reason i can see that it does not accept gif file..

if there are any suggestions..

Thanks

Sorry - never even heard of it!

:-(

Kind Regards
Duncan

Open it in a good picture viewer software (I use Irfanview) and 'save as' a Jpeg. You don't need to use photoshop to convert image types.

Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.

Is that the same Adobe photoshop album 2.0 starter edition that comes with PS 7.0?

I right click on a jpeg and see
"Import into Adobe photoshop album 2.0 starter edition"

I right click on a gif and don't see the import option.

I seem to have Adobe photoshop album 2.0 starter edition and believe it came with PS 7.0 but have never used it, it seems like it doesn't handle gif's.

or 'IRFANview'

Thanks but unfortunately as i said before i cant open the gif file i get the following error: "...not supported file types".
Thanks any way.

Why are you trying to convert a GIF to a JPG? When a GIF is created, you can only incorporate up to 256 colours in the image, so lots of colours get thrown out if there were more than 256 to start with. A JPG is a more suitable file format to use for web images if there are lots (millions) of colours - as in a photo for instance. GIFs are more suited to artwork such as logos or drawings that don't use a lot of colours anyway.

I mean, just because you CAN convert a GIF to a JPG doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I am converting gif to jpeg so that i can upload on a website which only supports jpeg. thanks.

then something is wrong with the GIF file u have...
try IRFANVIEW
just open the file and "Save as"

OR
Upload your image and one of us here will converit it/look at it.
All the best!

Or e-mail the image to one of us (if it's not too personal)
we should be able to convert and return.

it doesn't get better than this....use the offers ;-)
