I have a PC with Win XP Pro that was formatted to FAT32. I would like to convert to NTFS and have read the KB article on how to do this using convert.exe. I have Office XP Pro installed as well as some other software and many files. Am I safe in doing the conversion, anything to watch out for, suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

Like Wolluf said, you shouldn't have any problems, but you should back up all your files first just in case.

Keep in mind that FAT32 to NTFS is a one-way street, no going back with anything MS has to offer.

You should also know (if you don't already) that older versions of Windows, and many versions of Linux won't be able to see files on NTFS partitions. I had to run chkdsk before my FAT32 partition would convert to NTFS.

Start-Run- type--cmd -hit enter

In the command Window type-- convert c: /fs:ntfs

it will ask you a question, just hit Y then enter, you will need to restart your OS before it will do the conversion.

Another thing to think about. When converting from FAT32 to NTFS the cluster size is set to 2k and I don't think even Partition Magic can change this value. You have to format the partition to change it, when the default is 4k

Roy,
In reading about this subject, I thought I read somewhere that there was a utility to change the cluster size. I'll have to see if I can find it again.
