What applications do you have available? What aspects of the PDF do you want to preserve (fonts, text, etc)? Does it need to stay a PDF, or can it be another format?

I have photoshop (but really don't know how to use it,i use it to scan pictures & just crop & change the contrast, but i cant figure out much of the tools), there is a text title across the top of page & small clipart piece. i would rather leave it a PDF file, but i guess if i put it into photoshop then i can just convert it to "grayscale" ?? but not sure how to get it into photoshop?? i thought maybe there was a way to just convert this in adobe.
thanks for any help

Photoship is Adobe. The latest version of Photoshop will open up PDF files. And yeah, you can then convert it to Grayscale and save it as a PDF, but the text will be converted to bitmap.

If you have the full version of Acrobat, you can print from Acrobat, using a black-and-white postscript printer driver, with the "Print to File" option. That will create a PostScript file, which you can process through Distiller to create your black-and-white PDF.

I just stumbled across this thread.

I have Acrobat 5 full version. I used the generic postscript printer and printed to a file a color pdf. I then used distiller to create a new pdf and it is still color. :(

You have to print thru a black-and-white driver. Also, your print dialog box may contain a "Print Color as black" checkbox. You have to convince Acrobat to print black-and-white PostScript, which when distilled, will produce a black-and-white PDF.

Also you can edit image with your direct selection tool in the full version of acrobat which will open the image in Photoshop. From there goto image mode greyscale then do a "save" (not save as) close the window off and you pdf will automatically reflect your changes.
