Hi all!
Our organization is considering CCIS between sites but will pursue this cnocept if they realize a hard dollar cost savings. I figured if we could do CCIS over IP, we'd save on the monthly inter-office calls.

With a NON-VoIP NEC 2000(IVS) at most of our sites, I was wondering if it were possible to add CCIS with some kind of module that would convert the PRI to IP for the inter-office portion eliminating the need to upgrade our systems to IP-Based.
Does this kinda module exist???
Thanks for any help.

As far as I know there is no other option. CCIS over IP is the way to go but you need to make sure that you have a good carrier or at least the same carrier between the sites.

Some carriers can even build a QoS for you over their network. We have customers using Sprint. Sprint can build prioritization in their network - see Others who have done this too are: xchangetele.com or ttec.com.

Also, the reason for networking sites is not for cost savings. Hence your trouble with the cost of the line. The real reason is effience i.e. being able to transfer calls between sites, centrialized voicemial etc. Those who consider voip for cost savings are mislead by the hype. see a document on our site: article number 103 - VOIP Reality over Fiction.

These are out opinons.

Thank you for your informative response. Any idea of a ballpark figure to upgrade an IVS to VoIP?

There are many cards that work on the IVS and not on the IPS. In order to know the ball park figure (i.e. list price), you need to give us a list of all the cards in the system.

RAD data and Allied Telesyn make T-1 to Ethernet converters. I have been looking at these products as I have been tasked with finding a solution without going VoIP. Check out their websites.

grh959, if you find something to accomplish this, please let me know. Greatly appreciated!!!

I spoke w/ the manu of the IPtube on friday. They claim it will convert any proprietary PBX signaling.

I see that you could create a point to point PRI and use the old CCIS method. The price of the IPtube product will be $10k (list price) per point to point + price of NEC CCIS T1 card around $6k (list price) per point to point.

I guess if you need only a few sites and don’t want to upgrade, you may be fine.

However, if you have multiple sites, the IP Trunking may workout less expensive as you can do point to multipoint and the amount of channels is only limited by bandwidth.

There are other benefits in upgrading as the industry is inching away from TDM point to point service and coming up with solutions like the IPtube. How long will NEC continue to support CCIS over TDM? In addition, with the IP Trunking, you normally get 8 IP stations.

This is a very individual solution. I will certainly recommend solutions like IPtube in some cases.

Consider this as you crunch your numbers, the IVS is no longer supported by NEC. Replacement hardware may become more difficult to find, especially CPU's. By retro fitting to the new CPU, you are ensuring a continued life for your systems with the new features and IP functionality.

NEC has discontinued the retrofit, and they are offering better rebates for customers that replace the cabinets and all as an upgrade. This gets you into all new hardware and allows you to have all future upgrades and features available to you.
