I have a Pagemaker 6.5 file and i want to convert it to pdf - the file has 4 pages with 4 images on those pages (one on each). When i try to export to pdf it says the distiller has not created the pdf file and check the log for details! Firstly i have no idea why it is not converting and it would be helpful to find where this log file is located as I cannot find it!

Any ideas would be great

Hi, Alysonmac,

> 4 images

What format are the images? For best results with the PostScript printer driver, use only *.TIF or *.EPS.

See this page for the common reasons for the Export… AdobePDF… conversion failing.

> where this log file is located

It will have the same name as your final PDF but have the extension .log, and can be found in the same folder as where the PDF would have been saved.

I tried all you suggested :( with no luck - any other ideas?

Hi, alysonmac,

So you didn't find the error log, and you are using only *.TIF or *.EPS?

What happens if you move the images to the paste board and re-export?

alysonmac,
The log file can usually be found in the distillr directory and it should be a text file called messages. Also in the distiller window before you close, you can scroll up and read the log file for that job. Anyway, I have run into similar problems trying to export to PDF from PM6.5. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have convinced our users to use the "two-step" process. Setup a Distiller printer to print to file. Then in PM, print to the Adobe Distiller printer which will create a .ps file. Then you open Distiller and drop the file on Distiller and it will create the PDF. If you want, you can go back and delete the .ps file. (its no longer needed.) Hope this helps!

Hi alysonmac,

Make sure you don't have a space in the file name.

With PM6.5 and Distiller 3.0, eliminating spaces in the target file name fixes this problem.

has some related background.

And, as AEadmin points out, there's no point in looking for either the messages.log file in the Distiller directory or for the mypath/mydoc.log file (which won't exist unless conversion errors like missing fonts were encountered), since both log files merely repeat the information in the Distiller window.
