Is there a way to take a multi-chapter indesign book and convert the whole thing into B&W/Greyscale? I've been looking through the settings and i'm not finding anything thing that would let me do this...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tom

If you're needing it to change on output, simply use a driver that doesn't support color. If you simply need the color images to be converted to greyscale within your InDesign file, try using a plug-in such as Color2Gray from LightningBrain/Rorohiko. That allows you to take color images and convert them to greyscale. If you have other elements generated in InDesign, you could delete your color swatches and replace them with black.

There may even be a plug-in that does each of these things for you in one tidy package...do a Google search. Good luck!

Im not sure what you mean by use a driver that doesnt support color? I do need to take the "Book" from indesign that i put into a PDF file and convert the whole "Book" into a greyscale PDF file. OUr printers have told us that the program they use (workflowsystem) doesnt produce the pdf correctly, it fails on the pictures saying they are incorrect rgb format? I dont know what that all means.

Thanks for the info on the Color2Gray plugin that will help in the future.

Thanks

Go tp Print and choose Adobe pdf as the printer. Then go to Output in the print dialoge and choose composite gray.

You can also go to print and choose postscript as teh printer and adopbe pdf as the pdf. go to output and select composite gray. Then distill the postcript file through acrobat distiller.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Are you saying to do this in Indesign? Or in adobe Reader?

Thank you jmgalvin, i was able to print the book directly to the pdf printer and change it to composite greyscale. and the printers said that it was good and they wree able to use it.

Thanks again very much
