Lexmark X1240 Color All in One printer/scanner only shipped with xp drivers. Is there a way to convert these drivers to work in win 98 or does anyone know if there are any 'open source' drivers available that will get it running?

Any leads/suggestions greatly appreciated. thankyou.

If there are no older drivers on the Lexmark site and there aren't (and xp drivers don't work on 98 machine), then you're probably out of luck. Presume you've tried googling? (I've just tried - no joy).

Unfortunately I don't know of any current all-in-one printers with '98 support. A few of them support 2000, all of them XP.

98 had some USB issues, especially prior to 98 second edition (SE), so a 3rd party driver is highly doubtful. The only thing I can think to try is installing a few different Lexmark drivers for similar, older model printers, which may give you some functionality.

Otherwise, you will need to upgrade to make it work, which is not going to be as worth it considering you can find cheap Windows XP PCs for $200.

Have you tried installing the driver it came with to see whether its compatible with win98? Try contact the technical support of Lexmark.
I guess the printers are usually compatible with the older version of any Windows, but need to upgrade the drivers for new ones.

unfortunalty not:

You could use gernic text printer drivers, but you would get all functional of this device.

For info, the Brother DCP-540CN network all-in-one supports both 98 and 98SE.
