I have a working system with two NT7B74GA operating as T1. My MICS is 6.1XC. My Service provider wants to change to PRI. And also we are removing one of the NT7B74GA. What are the steps in order that I need to preform the conversion?
you have to buy a PRI enable number to get a key code to activate PRI on your sistem. To get this PRI enabler number you must tell your vendor. Once you get it, the enabler form has some pages that tells you how to install it. But if you have problems just let us know.
tell your phone company you want b8zs/ esf and ni2 (or you can have dms100/4ess/dms250 as well)
you lose 1 channel for traffic (t1=24 usable, PRI is 23 usable) and you need to build routes/destination codes to use a PRI - and the user will not get a dialtone after dialing a 9
Just I would like to add that you could have a second dial tone if you have the new 6.1 s/w (MR). So if you using PRI the customer can hear dial tone before dialing finally not like before. Thats was one of the enhancements of 6.1 MR
Something like this is not for the novice. You need a trained tech to help with this. T1's can be real head scratchers sometimes. If you don't want to be out of service until you can get a tech in, plan on having one there for the cut and get them involved before hand.
Just remeber that 2nd dialtone is only available as Profile 2 and not on profile 1. **Profile gets you there. Make sure you do this before you program the mics because it requires a reset.
NorstarWiz
If dial tone is only available using profile 2 then there is a problem. Are you sure Profile 2 is required?
Profile 1
This profile is the default profile. It supports cards and
protocols for Canada and the United States. This profile has
language support for English, Canadian French, and Spanish.
The mu-law companding law is used in this profile. The offcore
DTI module also is supported for this profile.
Profile 2
This profile is for international systems that use ETSI ISDN
lines with aLaw. The languages supported include: English,
French, Spanish, and Turkish.
PRI Cards supported
• PRI (E1)
Supported
• ETSI MCDN (SL-1) and
EURO protocols
• aLaw companding law
• Loops are provisioned
• T7000 telephone
I just went throught his on Monday. It seems that there is no programming for 2nd dialtone on Profile 1, it only becomes available with Profile 2. I'm gonna bench test this next week and will let you know how it goes. BTW I was using 6.1 FR and not MR so it may have been changed by Nortel allready!!
What’s new with Norstar / 41
Guide for a detailed description about how to use the
feature.
• CLID display enhancements:
— display an incoming call CLID on a telephone with
activated CLID display, where a call is currently
active.
• overlap dialing (profile 2 only)
— For calls over PRI lines that require pauses between
dialing sequences, this feature allows the line to send a
dialtone to the user between dialing an access code and
dialing the telephone number.
Unless this changed in MR you will not have the option in Profile 1
The second dial tone is available on profile one; I used that feature on the last 3 sites. This feature is only available on the MR release not the old 6.1 s/w. Make sure in maintenance that you have 6.1 MR it should end with (G05).
Thanx SamH. I figured this was the case with the MR software. Altho I'm not gonna upgrade the existing 6.1 FR with MR just for the dialtone. I'm glad they fixed it tho!!
There is no documentation on it yet neither on the CD or Nortel site. However I think there is a documentation update (4 pages) comes with the new MR s/w documents. I agree with you customers will upgrade for that feature; you don't know how many complains I received from customers because there is no dial tone with PRI (About time from Nortel).
Not to many complaints fromhere. I tell the customer to dial away. Most are happy to have the call go thru. It will be nice to have on new installations from here on out tho.
Thanks for the * ,sometimes it help to feel appreciated ,or at least the information that you provides help someone ,a lot of times you help some one and nothing in return ,you don't know if it helps or not. That make the person sometimes wonder why I’m helping if you will not know the results, do you know what I mean at least that’s how I feel or that’s my opinion.
