I have an excel spreadsheet which has a 3 columns

b.) From Process
c.) Process Descriptions
d.) To Process

I need to conver this spreadsheet to a flowchart in excel or visio, or any other MS.OFFICE platform.

If the above format is not possbile to be converted but you know of another way to convert any tabular form of data to a visual flowchart, we can convert our data into that format.

Thank you

Hi,

First, think in terms of a Process Master Table that contains the process name and process description.

Then there's the Process Connection Table, where you define what processes are connected to what (FROM, TO). Since a process can have many predecessors and sucessors, you don't need to duplicate the description each time. This is part of NORMALIZATION.

Then macro record inserting a Rectangle, and filling it with text. Thats a FROM.

The same process will be used for the TO.

Then macro record connecting the two rectangles.

Now you have the beginning of the process for generating a flowchart.

Post back with your code for more help.

I think we're on the right track. That is almost exactly as how we have it right now. However, we are having trouble connecting dynamic arrows because the arrows need to be optimized according to no. of blocks at each level.

If there was a pre-defined tool or function in ms.office that could convert between excel and visio (or excel itself), that would be great.

Thanks for your help.

"...because the arrows need to be optimized according to no. of blocks at each level."

Could you explain?

BTW, you posted in the VBA forum (programming}. If you're looking for a canned solution, it's probably not going to be posted here.
