I read in one forum that if you have an Extra CDRom available you could turn it to an independent CD player. All you need is a working CDRom a 12 volts power supply and speakers and what else do I have to do to start with this small project. Here in the Philippines they are selling this type of small and used CDRom converted to a CD player. Do we have any members that have tried this or have the know how on going about the said procedures. Thanks again.

I don't believe I would use a regular computer power supply to do this.Seems like they are meant to be used with more of a load than the cd rom would give it. I quess it would be ok if you hooked up a fan or two along with it tho.

Many thanks to members that answer my post, but how will I ask members like franklin97355 and fluxvoovoo additional question and send them personal thank you notes or email.

Additonal question to my post, I have a CDRom a separate power source 12V and a couple of speakers. How will I connect them all and upon inserting a Audio Cd the CDrom will start playing it. What do I need to do to make it work the way I like it. I won't be using any AMP on it just amplified speakers. I tried it but upon inserting the Audio it will just spin and stop, by the way I'm using an old CDRom is that OK.

I never thought about doing this before, but wouldn't you have to have some kinda processor and software to convert the digital signal coming from the cd player?

you would have to have a cdrom drive that has its own play button i believe not just the open close button. this type of drive would have 2 buttons instead of 1

Music comes out of the cdpayer as an analog signal.
either the cinnection on the back which you normally would connect to a sound card, or via the headphone jack on the front, and gosh must be some amplification to drive headphones....
