Hello I could use some help im a seasoned Nortel tech im looking for some procedures to change an opt 81 networked to 2 opt 11 ..what is the correct procedures needed to change from 4 digit to 7 digit dialing...to boot there is a octel 350 involved...thanks in advance... dmi table cdp, local steering codes...digit conflicks etc...

Will take a lot of planning but start with a DNB to see what numbers are in use (the TYPE will then let you know what else to check - DSC, LSC, phones, ACDN, CDN, ...). A good sanity check and clean up on the 81C would be good (remove any used routes, RLB, DSC, ...)

Pick sensible prefixes for the 7-digit plan (try to use the CO numbering plan for example).

Next determine what numbers should go to each 11 and do a high level dialplan.

Be careful with the Octels too, we're doing 4 to 7 digit conversions for a large network at the moment and customer had to make some table changes to make their Octels take 7 digit mailboxes.

Good luck!

You also used to have the DN Expansion package. That would allow you to go beyond 4 digits I believe. You might check on that.

As stated above, it's good practice to remove any unwanted data.
I've uploaded a procomm Plus listing program that would be useful to use. It will take you a while to complete. Be prepared for the unexpected such as hunt groups, BFS keys etc.

All the best

thats a great start guys I know there is so much more ...am I GOING TO HAVE TO CHANGE ALL THE DNS..on all three switcheds...can any body lay out a good plan...where to start as a guide line

I changed my dial plan from 4 to 7digits but did so utilizing HLOC's and the NRS. It made for a much more easy transition and it kept the local sites 4 digits which made it easier for the end users. so for example my CS1000M has extensions 2xxx-3xxx and has an nxx of 228 so to reach that site from another site a user has to dial 228-2xxx. May not be what you are looking to do but thought it might help with ideas.

Here's a rough cut, without knowing any network specifics...

1. Check the DDI/DID number ranges on each switch.
2. Decide if you want CDP (just dial a 7 digit DN to access any site) or UDP (AC2 plus site code plus DN)... given you want 7 digit DNs and should have some choice of the leading digits I'd go with CDP (UDP is 9 digits min which is not very user friendly 1+1+7). If you want UDP perhaps consider sticking with 4 digit DNs (you haven't mentioned why the push for 7 digits)
3. Decide on a numbering plan (you could use the NXX or CO prefix) for the 7 digit scheme if you go with that.
4. Design and implement the intersite route lists, DSC, etc. Implement PSTN/CO rollover with DMI if required (strip leading 3 digits in the RLB before outpulsing to PSTN/CO).

You can use LSC to emulate a 7 digit dial plan (send 7 digits between sites and let the LSC DEL the leading 3 digits to strip it back to 4 digits to match local DN). Getting the intersite dialling working first means you can convert each site in sequence... which you may be able to do over a weekend depending on size). Failing that get a service partner involved, they should be able to turn these round quickly and all you have to do is load the database they provide and reboot the switch (minutes of downtime).

wow im going to get partners involved being such a huge task....are there any good pro com scripts that anybody has to help with this...thanks again you guys rock....

If you have Telephony Manager you could do all your changes in their and then transmit it when you are ready.

Hey John Govt site mandated......will have at&t and nortel support but just want all my duckies in a row..just found out switch already supports 4 and 7 digit dialing ..need to out that 4 digit dialing..and do all testing ...just a large network site opt 81/csc 1000 hybrid.....

Thanks 1700544rb, if this was just a random thought from management a few of us on the forums may have been able to talk them out of it!

All the best with the conversions, it's definitely doable (we've done 11 of them this year in work) provided the time and effort is put into the planning.
