Converse-on Step Question

I have recently Connected a CM2 to an Avaya IR system, i have been asked to route the call to the IR via the vector with the following
converse-on to skill xxx pasiing ani

My question is what exactly dos this command do, my informant thinks it regenerates the cli and passes it on with dtmf tones.
any ideas anyone

Skill xxx should be your IVR skill , it also pass the ani for the IVR to process , typically a index to your DB on the server .

and should the cm actually regenerate the ani and pass it to the IVR with DTMF tones?

Yes - the ani will be passed as DTMF and your IVR app will have a 'collect' statement.
