Controling another Linux Box

I have two linux machines on my network. A workstation and an Alpha Server. How can I control the server from my workstation?

Well, editing config files starting and stopping services basic administration. Also so I dont have travel down three flights of stairs everytime i want to do somthing to it.

To start and stop services can you not just telnet to the server. As regards editing files, these can also be done through a telnet session or by mounting the server drive using nfs and editing them locally. Mise Le Meas,
