control recent folder size

In reviewing some of my users' large profiles, I have noticed that their Recent folders (one under AppData/Microsoft/Office and one directly in the Doc&Sett folder) have files dating back to 2001! Some of these folders were 3 MB by themselves, having over 3000 1KB shortcuts. How can I control this?
Is this a good issue for using the "exclude directories in roaming profile" option in Group Policy?

Perhaps an idea to make sure there files won't get so big. You can have a look at the policy settings from office and there set a maximum for recent documents.
