I brought this up back in the summer and this problem still plagues me. I spent an entire week going through our user list and eliminating old mailboxes, thinking I was going to put a big dent in the storage. Only got me down to 92%. And this was after removing about 24 boxes.

I am still constantly getting filled up. Today, its 98% and the user list, inaccurate as it can be...is only showing 16minutes used. But I know a lot of those 0 storage boxes still have old messages in them.

I've checked all my Classes of Service and they are to retain ReadMessages for no more than 10 days for most people, and 15 days for the others.

Is there any features or anything else that could be consuming storage like this? Its very time consuming manually logging into each mailbox to see whats there.

Also, my TEXT volume is at 93%...whatever that is.

Thanks as always.

and the bigger problem is that you can't even upgrade unless you're below 80%

I think ever since I started working here...93% was the lowest I ever saw it.

Steve-

I wish I knew how to help you. I have hundreds of mailboxes and menus scattered over several switches all tied back to my Opt 61 for MerMail. My text is around 25%, and the HIGHEST my voice has been was 93% (when I first started and my predecessor had dozens of unused boxes lingering). Do you seriously have only 55 mailboxes?

My voice runs about 82% right now, and the only reason for that is my boss has 340 minutes of stored messages. Otherwise, it would be down around 55%.

Since Nortel support for MM has been discontinued, maybe you can get your CFO to spring for an upgrade to CallPilot. We're about to do so. The conversion process may reveal the problem and leave it behind.

They wont spend more than a few hundred bucks at most. CallPilot is what...several thousands of dollars + that for a tech to install?

Besides, they will continue to use the line "Well it was never like this before" against me. And they're right. We had prolly 80 mailboxes when I started here. Many of them unused and others long gone from laid off employees.

Print up some OM reports on box useage for the next 2 weeks and present it. You can't justify ANYTHING prior to your arrival on site but you can back up your assertions with fact. Show the people who the hogs are in a public forum and let them justify their needs publicly. If they need more storage than you have, ask them who they should take the storage space away from. Let them play the politics crap. You just want orders to follow.

As to the "it wasn't like this before..." crap, well the simple response to that is "Everything works until it breaks.

Hi, I've was looking at this thread and have not seen you
post how many hours of storage you have, I have seen alot
of Opt 11 M. Mail's that only had 5 hours of storage, with
55 mailboxes (5 hr= 300 min) that may not be near enough.
Also I'm not sure that auto deletetion of unread messages
was an option on rls 10, haven't seen one that old in a
while.

I ask for that on Sept 7

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Many years ago I had an issue with storage on Rls 7.
We were changing mailboxes rather than out them and rebuild.
This created alot of corruption that only NORTEL could fix.
NORTEL had to go in and reallocate memory or something I can't remember. I don't know if it was a problem with Rls 10. I'm on Rls 13 now and have just made it a habit to always out and rebuild the mailboxes.

This is the best site I have found for support.
Thanks Tek-Tips and everbody here!!!!

Did you ever reload the Mermail after backing it up?

It hasn't been backed up in several months...and it wasn't by me.

Is there a specific or recommended kind of tape drive that works with this?

Even if I have 300min of storage, there's no way that its being used by voice messages alone. I prolly have an average of maybe 30min or less being used when I go through it all after getting a FULL warning.

it should have a tape drive in the Mermail already.

It was suggested that you do a reload because that might clear up any issues you are having. With the backup you wont lose any data. Do it on a weekend if you are not open then. Run the backup overnight, come in early am and reload, then restore.

If balancing the allowed storage via another Class of Service works...I think I'll try that first, since its the quickest. There's many individuals that I could cut the storage down for definitely.

Our mermail cabinet has a SCSI port, but no actual drive. When we had our consultant here last, he used an external to back up our voicemail.

If it gets to that, I'm sure I could find on on eBay or somethin.
