Hi

I have set up a test network for our future SMS implementation but cannot yet distribute software.
Client installation was all fine, I've got everything working OK except the Software Distribution.

I have created the Package then Program and the Advertisement all OK I think.

These are the messages.....

The Advertisement status message says 'The program for the Advertisement "HVT20002 has not started because the content has not been acquired" Possible cause: The content for this program must be downloaded into the computerts cache or the content could not be located'

The Package staus messages say SMS Distribution manager has successfully Processed, Distributed & Copied the Package form the SMS folder to both the Cache and the Distribution point. Also that User\Admin created an Advertisement......

Using the SMS toolkit Client Spy utility, The Software Distribution Cache tab shows both client machines under Downloading Items, to be expecting the package in the CCM\Cache folder.
These folders are there but empty...

Not sure where I am going wrong, any help much appreciated

might be a rights thing, or they they just dont know where the dp is. If you set the dp up as a protected dp then make sure you put in some boundaries.

Take a look in the advertisement date...if it isnt set to manditory ... ever it wont run...and make sure the adv time is set to like now and not a week from now

then go through the client logs cas.log is a good start

Thanks tbrennans for your reply.

might be a rights thing - I can map from the client to the SMS cache folder with no problems, is this what you mean

I think they know where the dp is as the clients see the advertisements ok.
The dp is was set up as a protected dp with boundaries, tried it without and still no joy.

Advertisement date is fine. it is set to manditory and As soon as possible

The cas.log has an entry that I dont understand.

"download request only, ignoring location update"

seems relevant.....

Take a look at the LocationServices.log file on the client. Make sure it is pointing to the correct DP. What security mode are you running in SMS 2003?

Still seems to me then, that since you said you changed the pdp..the client saw that

"download request only, ignoring location update

meaning it sees to download,, and it saw the location update. (when you made the change)

Having said download request makes me still wonder if the date in the advert is off in the future. Not where you set it to manditory but up above that in the advert start time. Is that date correct?

Thanks again tbrennans for your reply.

The mandatory settings and date were fine.

I deleted the previous package and advert and created a new one, and now it has run OK.
Now just gonna create some more and test and just get used to it

Thanks for your help.

Interesting, perhaps that original was just corrupt. That happens from time to time.

Glad you worked it out.
