Hi,

I have sendmail server running on RH 7.3. My all incoming mails are getting filter with one of our service providers but still i get some of the spam mail.

I want to block these mails based on content. For eg:if it matches words like viagra, sex etc it should block it.

How can i do that on sendmail.

regards

Searching is always a good start--that way you don't cover topics that have been hashed and rehashed numerous times, saving everyone involved the time and effort of doing so yet again.

That said, you have numerous options available to you. Spamassassin is currently my spam filter of choice. Instructions integrating spamassassin directly with sendmail can be found at
On the other hand, you might want a more complete content filtering solution. If so, take a look at Amavisd. A simple howto can be found at
If you don't like either of my suggestions, you can read Sendmail.org's anti-spam provisions page at to get some other ideas.

Last, but not least (actually, this should be first) you can google for the terms 'sendmail' and 'anti-spam' and have a plethora of informative sites at your fingertips.

Hi,

I dont want any addons for my mail server. As i earlier wrote that i already have a content filtering provider that does filtering for me and is doing well, but still some mails are reached (it will be two or three) But i want to completely eliminate spam. Those message will have some common words, So i want to filter based on that.

Just like access.db wherein i can put the email/domains i want to block or subjectline filter, Same thing i want to do for contents. I couldnt get any document which would help me in filter based on mail content without using spamassasin or any other software.

In other words i want to explore the inbuilt capability of sendmail to do my work. I have bandwidth constraints thats why i cant use any add-on anti-spam software on my mail server.

My 2 cents...
I believe an 'add on' is not a bandwith issue, but a cpu issue. You should look at adding procmail to your sendmail server if you want to scan the headers and/or body for specifics (google procmail).
But even this is not 100%. SpamAssassin and MailScanner are pretty good. But you got to realize the lousy spammers have access to the tools we use to block them with, so they can test ways to get through the filters it their shop too.
