Hi We use Mcafee

desktops have the following
VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i
Mcafee Agent vsersion 4.0.0.1180

some laptops have the mcafee firewall client on them.

there is a client update daily which pulls a 45Mb dat from the console server which holds the most upto date dat file.

my question i guess is should it need to pull a slowly growing file every time , is there no option for mcafee to enable it to check whats on the client compared with the server and then pull the differences not the whole file each time 45 MB x 5000 clients is alot of bandwidth! and i wouln't mind but its moving the same file everytime + 200k thats different.

are there settings that can be altered to correct this or is this just how mcafee works!

i'm far from being an expert any idea's would be fab

Thanks

Lots of ways around that, but first you need to define your environment a little better. Are you using ePO to manage your A/V clients, or is each just running independent with a scheduled job to update daily? If they're all running independent, where are they connecting to for their updates? McAfee FTP or HTTP update point on the 'web or in-house update directory/repository? What are the file contents of the update point or directory?

May be able to get you down to 150-300k per daily update, but need to know more about how you're equipped.--The Bug Guy
