Connectivity With Clients <PROBLEM> WEIRD

I have a very WEIRD situation with my current SMS setup.

After many days of hair tearing, trying to get hte client software to push out, along with configuring the servers and the Site Server, I decided to take the cheats way out and install the client software manually on the client machine.

However, SMS, even though detecting the presence of all the machines, servers and client, didnot update to recognise the client software installed. It was running real time, as the task and process lits can be displayed correctly, but this can be done without client software installed.

Anyway, I had finally tuned the system to what should be perfect SMS2003 environment, so I uninstalled JUST the MS SMS2003 Site Server program, not the OS like I have done several times before.

When I reinstalled the program and configured it as normal. Viola! The SiteServer and the Client (that I installed manually ont he client machine) confirm that the client software was installed. So I thought I'd cracked it, and that the tinkering whilst running, and continious configing affected the opperation. However, I went to install the client software on the other machines, and low and behold, NOTHING again. I have installed the software manually, and still nothing. I am betting that if I uninstall SMS SS again, and reinstall it. All three will now be functioning.

Any body any ideas.

Also, on the machines with the client installed, I can not push out any packages, or execute remote controls, desktop, tools. And YES, remote desktop instances are installed on the machines.

This is really annoying me now, can anybody offer any help?

Regards
NC

You have the proper boundaries entered on the site for all the different subnets and ad sites.

If you are using AD have you extended the schema? did you include that in the site in the boundaries?

Are your sites in AD setup with the proper ipsites in them?

There are a crap load of variables that could cause this unfortunately.

Best thing to do is start checking logs and see where that brings you

The boundaries are correct as all the machines are on the subnet, including the servers.

The AD Schema has been extended.

I have looked through all the logs that would make any sense, and can't actually derive anything from them.

All I can say is that I have now got remote viewing working on the machines that have had the client installed, so there is obvioulsy a perfectly good link between them, it's just initiations that SMS SS is having a problem with. I now have one machine left, again, an advanced client suitable Win2K machine (Actually the DNS Server), again is the PDC and in the subnet and the instalation will not push out! There have been no logs created on the target 2k machine. But the SS can still query in real time so there is a link there. MP and DP are all set, client installation Push accounts have access rights. I really cant think of anything else.

Im going insane.

Anything else you suggest I check.

Itterating, the machines that have had the clients installed have all been done manually.

hmmm well I'm thinking it must have something to do with the slp if they wont install any other way than manually as that is what it must locate to continue with an install

In the ad system | system managment container does the slp show up in there where the schema extended?

one last thing, by default a client wont install on a pdc unless ya uncheck that box...dont recall where it is off the top of my head though.

pdc I mean pdc emulator as AD doesnt really have one...what i meant to say was it wont install on a dc by default

when you say show up....there are empty folders in the system>system management container names

SMS_MP_NC1_SMSSITESERV and SMS_SLP_NC1_SMSSITESERV

SMS_NC1_SMSSITESERV as a value of type SMS_NC1_SMSSITESERV

Is this that all that should be there...or should the SLP and MP folders have something in them. I have however already checked the permission on them and all the corresponding users/accounts have the correct permissions.

As long as they are there its good,( SMS_MP_NC1_SMSSITESERV and SMS_SLP_NC1_SMSSITESERV SMS_NC1_SMSSITESERV as a value of type SMS_NC1_SMSSITESERV )

so are you still at just the dc not installing?

On the client take a look at the locationservices.log and the clientlocation.log and see whats up in there, then you would check out the ccmexec.log and see if there are other communication problems with the MP

on the server take a look at the ccm.log to see if there are client push errors...

another thing that would screw you up is if file and print sharing were not enbled....I running out of suggestions!
