I have a client who is running a WIN 98, WIN 2000 Pro and Win XP Home system.

They are using an 8 port netgear switch(and I tested with a NEW Netgear 5 port switch to eliminate that variable) and are using a dinky old 56 dial-up modem that is being shared on the WIN 98 machine(They will be getting a T1 line within a month).

I am having problems "seeing" the WIN 2000 Pro on both machines and I am having problems intermintently seeing the WIN XP Home machine on the WIN 98 machine.

The Win 2000 Pro system won't even connect to the workgroup.

I have the same problems both using PING and network neighborhood.

I need help!

I suspect a cabling issues but don't want to waste time and money running cable if that is not the issue.

What do you guys think?

I am scheduled to go back on Sunday to take a better look.

Please ask if you need more information of clarification.

could be cabling. Could be the protocols you have on the network cards.

Any firewalls in use here?
Not being able to ping in just one direction or not being able to see some but not all of the computers also make me suspect firewall issues.

-Cheers, Niklas
