connection to win2000 server

win me machine i can see the computer i want to connect to in the network places workgroup when i open it i am promted with a dialog box having only used win xp machines to connect to a computer i am lost when i see the line that is grayed out that shows resorce \\machine\ipc$ what am i doing wrong where i am not prompted with a user name? i have tried logging in at boot up when it prompts but that did not get me there either so now i am lost..the pc in question is a member of the workgroup? what am i doing wrong??? thanks for any and all help
 
There has to be a user on th emachine you are trying to connect to that mirrors the user that exists on the machine you are connecting from.

i.e.

PC1(WinME) has USER_A
2000 Server, must also have a USER_A, with access rights to the shared resources so PC1(WinME) can connect.

Password for USER_A on PC1(WinME) must be the same to that of USER_A on Win2000 server.
