I noticed you were discussing Norstar Voicemail Manager. In case anyone needs to know how to connect to a NAM to use Nortsar Voicemail Manager the following may be helpful.

Norstar Voicemail Manager is the program that you can use to edit the class of services and other programming that can't be done any other way except through NVM Mgr. You can access the NAM by the internal NAM modem, through the NAM Network Interface Card NIC or directly through a com port. In this discussion you will do it using a modem(COM4 IRQ5). You will connect to the NAM by using a PC that has the Norstar Voicemail Manager installed on it. Connect a B1 line to the NAM's internal modem and call that line with your ppp dialer you will create. In the modem connection scenario you will have to make a network dialer. In Windows you go to the Dial Up Networking window and make a new connection. You must enter the following dialer information;

User name: namaccess
Password: log2nam

Once you connect to the NAM and the dialer minimizes you will run the Norstar Voicemail Manager program. You will be presented with an Administration Password window. You must enter the following dialer information;

Server Nam or IP: 192.168.110.10(use this IP for modem connection)
Administrative Password: (what ever your Admin password is, such as 1020000)

The program will run and a menu titled NVM Manager and will appear at the top of your screen. One of the common tasks is to make passwords never to expire. To do that you will then select the OPTIONS menu tab and then select EDIT CLASS OF SERVICE. You will enter 0 for Passwords Expiry in Days to make your mailbox passwords never to expire for a particular class of service. There are other valuable selections to make in this tab. An entry here is the only way to edit the class of services.

Note: If your NAM is connected to a network you can gain entry without the network dialer, and just simply run the Norstar Voicemail Manager program using the actual IP of the NAM on the LAN instead of the default IP.

That cleared up a lot. Thanks so much for that post - I think the last one I posted with the question was lost on some people. No hard feelings, but this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. :) -= Beer is food! Is it suppertime? =-

Thanks Daveboy2! I hope to learn, as well as share with the Tips Forum.

I have a NAM with software ver 2.12 on it and I am interested in connecting to it to modify class of service items. Can I add a standard network card like a 3com board or does it have to be a certain card?

On the NAM 1 (486 processor) you are not going to connect to edit COS with a NIC. I have not done COS editing on a NAM 1 but I have read how to connect to one. You will use a COM port opposite one from what the NAM3G uses for a direct serial connection. I'll try to get the information for you. It's different since you aren't using NVM Mgr. I've got the proceedure on paper, tomorrow I'll look for it.

Good Luck.

After looking at my NAM I have a model NT5B77AC-93 Rel 5 Model 8. It has two serial ports labeled A and B and it also has a internal modem in slot 8. It looks like I can use the information above to connect but I don't understand some of the lingo used. Please explane the B1 line. Is this just like a standard modem line connected to it?? Thanks

yes... just a standard line.

where can I download the remote access tools??

redhawkfla, Why don't you make a FAQ out of your first post, it would make it easier to find in the future. JerryReeve

there is a file from Nortel that enables you to use Dial-up networking in windows and the RS232 port for a direct connection into the NAM...works well.
