I'm using Win2k with legato 6.0.1 I'm getting a Connection Timed out error. I've tried to change the inactivity timout to 0 but this does not work. I can force a backup to the server from the client just fine. But the server can not fetch the data from the client. Any sugestions?

Check out your network settings first. Check your NIC's are set to 100/FULL, etc and that the data is not going via some strange route. Mike davison

Please ensure that the hosts file on the backup server contains all the alias of the client. For eg, if the client have a FQDN please include that also, etc..

Plese stop and restart the networker services after making changes to the hosts file.

Make sure that the alias field of the client found in NetAdmin shows all the alias of the client.

The HOSTS file trick takes care of about 50% of mysterious Legato problems. Especially the "timed out due to inactivity" error. Make sure that the HOSTS file on each client points to the Legato Server using long and short names and that the HOSTS file on the Legato server contains entries for all clients. You can also set the inactivity timeout to "0" so it won't timeout and this may give more detailed error messages. (just for troubleshooting)
