Hi

For the past couple of months my connection seems to timeout from anywhere between 20 to 60 secs. I can literary see the little Window's connection icon in the bottom right corner go dead. Lately, when this happens, I will use DOS to ping a random IP (such as dell.com) to see how long it takes and to confirm that the problem isn't browser related. The result usually displays a loss of packets and a huge ping time. In addition, during these moments IE will be sluggish, even the scroll bar, opening favorites, etc. What causes this? Is this problem client or server end?

Your advice is much appreciated,
Dan

This can be caused by a few things, First of all, maybe check your idle disconnect settings in your modem, dialer, internet options and if you have netscape search for the file muc.dll and if it's there rename it.. Second, this might be your modem dropping the connection. This might be due to a variety of factors...

If you could provide more information like, computer, OS, modem .etc...

Thanks for the help. I opted to get DSL last week, so the problem has been eliminated. I had planned to get DSL anyhow, but this compelled me to get it a little sooner. Again, thanks for your help.
