Connection problem w/ a dlink dwl-g120 model

Hi!
I have this problem staying connected w/ the internet. First of all, my OS is windows XP home edition and I'm using D-link Airplus G DWL-G120 wireless adapter. I got this adapter at the sametime my apartment switch to a new ISP (my apartment provides free internet).

So my problem is staying connected. The problem occurs sporadically; it can happen after I connect and a few mins later I get disconnected (it says I'm connected with strong signal strength, but I can't surf the web, I get disconnected from AIM etc...and sometimes I get the No connectivity problem); or it can happen after one or two hours of being connected. How do I fix this problem? Is this my ISP or my adapter??
 
Make sure you don't have power saving mode set for this adaptor.

Can you check with other residents in your apartment? Are any of them having similar problems?

How about interference? Do you use a cordless phone which might be using a channel very close to your apartment's chosen WiFi frequency? Microwave ovens operate in the same frequency band (2.4GHz) as 802.11/b and 802.11/g WiFi. Keep your computer away from the kitchen.

Just because you're getting "strong signal strength", doesn't mean the signal is of good quality. Do you know roughly where the antenna is located in the building that you're connecting to? If possible, try repostioning your computer so you have as few walls, doors, obstructions, metal objects, etc., between you and that antenna.

Hey Roger,
I have disabled the power saving mode for this adaptor already. I don't think other residents are having the exact same problem as me. Also, I'm living in a studio so its kinda near the microwave but I rarely use it. Nope, I don't have a cordless phone. The antenna is located upstairs and that is all i know. Thanks for your suggestions tho, but I think its my adapter because I've exhausted every possible solution.
 
Acouple of tother things to try first:

Disable Wireless Zero Configuration (in Control Panel) and only use the DLink software.

In the DLink software you may see several choices of networks to connect to and the order in which to try them (bottom half of the configuration screen). Remove all of them except your network name.

If running a firewall, make sure you are not running two firewalls together (like AVG and Miscrosoft's SP2 firewall).
 
See if you can find out the IP address of the AP you're connecting to in the building. Make sure you can ping it ok when you have a solid internet connection, and then see if you can ping it again when you lose the internet. Have you tried putting in your ISP's DNS IP address in the Local Area Properties - TCP/IP settings?

You say "The antenna is located upstairs and that is all i know." I assume this is the antenna of the AP you're connecting to? How "upstairs" is it from your studio? Are we talking on the next level, or three floors up? Sorry to press you on this point, but it may help us to know if we're looking at the antenna roughly 10 feet above your computer or 50 feet! Is the signal having to go through steel reinforced concrete floor(s), or just nice plain wooden tongued and grooved boards etc.

Frank- Yea, I disabled the windows config one already but it didn't solve the problem. Um, I will remove the other networks except for mine and see if it works.

Roger- I just tried the pinging and when I have a solid connection or a disconnection i get the same message-Requested time out. If you mean having a static IP address then I have but all i get is Connected but I can't surf the web at all.

Upstairs i mean just the level up. My apartment is shaped liek this ] and so the antenna is on the second floor in the middle. I live on the flank. I don't know if its steel or wood. I don't know the distance as well.
