I cannot connect a new XP Pro system to the server (Windows Server 2000) by log on. I can see the server, and other computers. I can map a drive to the identity it needs to connect to. I can do it all EXCEPT log on to the server at start up. The error says something like: the local machine cannot find the id path, and that it is attempting to log on as a temp id, and no changes will be saved.

Our IBM software provider doesn't know how to get the connection through either.

Any suggestions?

If your PC is having issues connecting to the Domino server, you caould add a connection doc. By default, XP will try and resolve the server name via DNS. This could be the issue, but to rule out name resolution, I would add the connection an define the IP address.

From your Notes client, open your personal address book (names.nsf), File, Mobile, Locations. Click the connections view, New Connection button, Connection type: LAN, TCPIP, Server name (Common Name/xxx/xxx/xxx), click the Advanced Tab and enter the Domino IP address.

Once this is done, try logging out of Notes and back in. If this still fails, double check the paths in your client notes.ini file.

Hope this helps.

If above solution still does not connect, then you can also try entering the Server IP address instead of the server name in the connection document.
