I would like to setup two servers at different locations to communicate with each other and replicate group polices, users, etc, via WAN access.

Both servers are behind cable/DSL routers using linux firmware dd-wrt. Both routers have the following ports forwarded to the servers: 1723, 47, 500, 50, 51. VPN works from both locations to the opposite location.

ServerA at LocationA will be the primary controller.
ServerB at LocationB will be the secondary / backup controller.

I'm looking for recommendations, examples, or how to guides.
Thank You

There's no such thing as primary and backup DC's any longer. You mentioned that you use routers, but what about firewalls? Do you have a domain created?

If you have a VPN connection between the 2 locations, you should have no trouble having a DC at each location.

Good luck,

They are home based Cable/DSL Routers which both have firewall built in. I have created the domain on one server already. Maybe the question is how do I have ServerB at LocationB connect to ServerA at LocationA without login and manual dialing the VPN Connection. Basically how do I keep ServerA and ServerB continuously connection.

As long as both servers are DCs in the same domain they will sync for you, that is what active directory does. You need to use active directory sites and services as you have more then one geographical site, by using sites and services you can configure the site links to only replicate at certain times of the day;

If there are firewalls at each end of the vpn then certain ports need to be open for AD replication to take place;
