Connecting to the SQL ACT! server 1

A dept in my company just setup an ACT! server which uses MS SQL Server 2000 as the back-end. Unfortunately, it appears that ACT installs a hacked up version of SQL Server in that none of the GUI tools are installed on that server. We are not allowed to have the sa password either. Apparently, wanting to maintain our own server violates the contract with the ACT software company.

I've found the instance name of the setup, but none of the administrative accounts I have access to are able to access the instance. (I'm guessing built-in group admin rights have been removed.)

Anyone have any experience with this and any suggestions as to how I can get back into this server to cover my tail?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I've actually gotten an answer from ACT about that. It's not actually SQL Server. It is a VERY hacked up version of the SQL Engine, but it doesn't use the SQL file structor, SQL login system, or anything else from SQL. Only the data processing engine is based on SQL. From what I've been able to figure out there is basically no way to manage it outside of the ACT software.

Thank you for insight! I was pulling out all hacks that I know to break into this thing, and was being defeated at every turn. My ego feels my better now.

I will coordinate with the user group to see how we can get regular backups, at least, done for their data.

Thank you!

no problem.
