connecting to server problems

I'm getting this msg when i try to login to my new account.

An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder /

http://www/.

Access Denied. The file may not exist, or
there could be permission problems.

what does this error mean?

I have contacted my hosting company and they say everything is working fine.

it means that your FTP account doesn't have the correct rights the to the root flder called 'www'
