I need a way to connect remote outlook clients to the exchange server. Right now I have them using the OWA but I'd like them to use the normal Outlook program. Can someone please direct me to a good resource for setting this up? Or is this not possible without a VPN/citrix/TS connection?
Thank you very much.

if you open up RPC & mapi over the internet to your server that's an insecure way.

choose some dialin connection (dial-up or VPN solution) and have your users connected that way.

Citrix/TS is overhead if only a small number of users have to be granted remote access.

Thanks! I'm also wondering if there is a way to work with IMAP4 and set it up so that they can work with their address book/shared folders/calendars in the same way as a direct connection with the ExSvr?

If you don't want to connect via a VPN solution I'd suggest you wait for Windows 2003,Exchange 2003 and Outlook 11. These new apps will give you the functionality that you're looking for:

Adding Windows Server 2003 enables Outlook 11 to connect to Exchange without a virtual private network (VPN) when outside the corporate firewall.
