I have Windows Server 2000 Small Business Edition. I have set it up to use only workgroups. I have about 10 client machines all running Windows XP. They are on the same workgroup as the server, but everytime they go to connect to the mapped drives that I have created on the Client machines, the server always asks for a username and password. Why does it do this? All I am trying to do is use it as a file server, so I decided not to use domains. The Server should allow the users to connect and browse the shared folders.....but it keeps asking for a password.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hi mate

if you are not using the domain model (why?) then you will need to create a local user account on the server that matches that of the one they use to login to the workstation.

Also it will need to have the same password to be seemless
