Is there a way to connect to a shared printer(win2K computer) so that all users on an xp computer can use it without having to install it? I installed it under my login and if another user comes along he will have to install it also. Thanks for the help.
PS this is on a domain.

Howdy:

The printer drivers and operating program must be installed in every username in order for it to work..

If I log on as another user and check the printers it does not exist but all I have to do is Add printer, select network printer, browse to the printer and say OK. the drivers are recognized and the printer installs. The main problem is we have about 800 students and the computers have a 'freeze' program so each student has to do this every time they log on if they want to use the printer. [sad]

Great thread there Bill.

I also found (but have not yet tested conclusively) that if you set the printer up in a local user account and then copy that to the default user the printer sticks. (at least so far).

For a new user, yes.

Best Holiday Wishes to you Franlin97355,

One of the kids helping us set up some new computers had a way of doing it that seems to work well. under printers add new printer and add a local printer. Create a new local port with \\computername\printershare. This seems to work (so far).

Keep the new kid. He apparently is a secret fan of bcastner posts:
