Connecting to a remote MYSQL DB

You can use a IP-address-resolvable fully-qualified domain name in place of the 'localhost' entry.
However, your hosting folk may have their firewall configured such that connections to MySQL cannot be made from outside their network. I know I have my firewall set up that way.
