I was wondering if it's posible to connect to a novel server using the novell client on a computer that I not on the LAN of the Netware server. Please let me know if that's possible and what needs to be done in order for it to work.

If the required ports are open, then sure. The main one for NCP is 524, I don't remember offhand if there are others.

Sure its possible... but will this NetWare Server be located behind a FireWall? If so, you need to make sure that you have your FireWall configured to allow the necessary packets to pass thru (...as "lgarner" stated above) and interact with the Server.

Security will be your biggest task.

There are other, more secure methods of connecting to the Server via the Internet, it just depends on your budget.

Good Luck!

I don't believe my nw box has a firewall, or at least not one that I put on it.

FYI...

A FireWall is a device that resides between your Internet Router and your Local Area Network. It is completely seperate from your Novell Server (I know... unless you are running BorderManager, which is Novell's FireWall). Anyways... either way, if you are connected to the Internet, you should DEFINITELY have a FireWall in-place!!!

Good Luck.

I have it setup where as my DSL is connected to a switch and then the NW box is connected to that switch.

You REALLY should have a FireWall!!! You are completely exposed to the outside world and totally accessible to any hacker!!!

Its your decision, but I would protect your Users.

Good Luck!

And your network!!! Any hacker worth their salt (probably 12 years of age!) can hack your network to bits at the moment!! -----------------------------------------------------
