Connecting remotely to a BCM400

Here's an odd one. I have a customer who has a BCM 400 rel 3.7 at three different locations. All 3 are connected to the network at their location. The only reason they are connected to the network is so he can access each BCM from his office for admin purposes. There are no IP phones and they do not dial extension to extension. There is one location he can not access. He can ping the BCM but can not get to the login page. I checked the programming and I can see no difference between the sites. I went into maintenace and the BCM can ping the other sites and can be pinged.

Any suggestions?

I think you might need to check the default gateway settings on the router at the remote end.

Sound to me like it's a customer network issue. Can you log-in plugged into the port? If so, pass the issue along to their IT department. May be a port closed issue on their firewall.

telcodog, if he could ping the BCM that tells me it's not a GW issue.

Different ports for ICMP, besides, there's no guaranty that the address being pinged is actually the BCM.

Don't know if he's going in on an MPLS network or through the internet. In either case, ports and IP routes in their firewalls have to be verified on the network.

1. Default gateway is correct.
2. I can log in plugged into LAN 2 and LAN 1.
3. I was working with their IT guy today, you know how they are....it's never their equipment...LOL..

Unlike Windows I dont know that BCM will tell you "IP address conflict".
Try unplugging the patch cable, if you can still ping it then thats the issue.

Or as well just change the IP.

Can the BCM 3.7 be accessed at that site OK?. If not, then the system may have to be rebooted as it's common for the NT4 software to fail and would need a reset again.

Also does this site use Call Pilot and does it still function OK?. I've had a few sites running 3.x software where the hard disk has failed, yet the phone system is working fine. Only the IP is down and on one release 4.0 system we had a faulty hard disk that was the cause.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Everything works on the BCM including vm i have rebooted I can connect directly via both LAN ports. I can dial in via modem. I can get on the network on-site and connect. I think it's a network issue. Just having a hard time convincing IT.

Did you check to see which LAN port is the published IP address? Compare that to the one you can access remotely.

Finally got the IT dude to look at his stuff. It was his equipment blocking access to the BCM. Go figure!!

Thanks for everyone's input!!
