Connecting R7 to laptop with only USB ports 1

How do you connect the admin port on an Avaya R7 509 to a computer that only has USB and not com ports?

That part suxs about the remote admin software. I never have connected. I have a cable that converts usb to DB9(serial connection. The problem most of us have, is, when you insttall the usb cable, my computer assigns it to com 5 or above. Avaya only has it in the software for 1 or 2.

If you were comfortable with windows, you could delete whatever is com 1 and force the computer to install the new usb device on com 1 or 2. That way it would work fine.

oh, sorry forgot. The same adaptor that you would use to hook to a magix. It is a 355a adaptor. You can get it from any Avaya distributor. Or goto the Merlin forums and search for the 355a adaptor and you will find the pinout.

PCMCIA port available? Might look for an adaptor for that.

I assume that you are referring to a PCMCIA card slot on the laptop, right aarenot. There should be an old-school adapter for that, one that would provide you with a serial port from a PCMCIA card slot. Rare to find, but I do believe they made them.

From what I can garner about your question, If your laptop has a Modem jack, use that. Just use direct dial to connect to extension 76. I assume you have the hunt group and remote access password configured?
