Connecting Outlook to Exchange from inside to DMZ 2

When setting up Outlook and selcting exchange account to configure, I put in the IP address of the Exchange server on the DMZ, which I can get to through OWA with no porblem, and it stalls out as if it can't find it - do you have to be on the same network to connect to exchange through Outlook client?
 
HI.

First of all, make sure you have correct name resolution at the client. Writing the ip address is sometimes not enough.
Edit the HOSTS file at the client and add the computer name and ip address of the Exchange server.

Next, it could be that the pix is blocking part of the communication. One way to find out is to look at the syslog messages of the pix.

One problems you will have for sure - When a new message comes to the inbox of the client, the Exchange server send a notification to the client. Since the idea of DMZ is to block such traffic, the client won't get it.
I think that there is a solution that configures outlook to poll for new mail every X minutes, but I'm not sure.
