Is it possible to make a connection to Oracle
when you have Coldfusion server version professionnal.
I know it is possible with the entreprise edition
and the native driver options but in the professionnal
there is no such thing as native drivers.
You should have a Merant ODBC driver for Oracle 7 & 8 when you install CF 5.0. The the native drivers are better than the ODBC drivers but I don't think you'll see any performance problems in not using them. Just go under the "odbc" section and you should have options for setting up an Oracle datasource.
Is Merant the only possible solution?
I have made a connection with merant ODBC
and tested it and all works well but when I test the
connection in the administrator page of coldfusion server
it failed. And when I view a query result in the browser
the error code is "Not supported driver".
What does this mean? Is the connection succesfull with
ODBC but not with the CF server? Or is the test in the
ODBC screen not important?
Do you know?
They should be the same but I would suggest always using the CF admin for creating them. Did you supply a username and password in the CF admin? I think that if you create the datasource through the NT odbc manager, the username and password you supply won't be available to CF until you enter it through the CF admin.
Let me know as I think this is the most likely reason it's failing.
