I've got two buildings on campus (one with CICS 1.0, other with M8x24 DR5) connected via DN to ATA2 to TRUNK. The CICS uses DN 2XX and the 824 uses 3XX. The CICS has one ATA2 installed on DN235 connected to 824 Line/CO7 and the 824 has one ATA2 installed on DN341 connected to CICS line 04. Only having success dialing from 824 to CICS; CICS to 824 gives busy signal.

Both systems configured as follows:
............................CICS................824
............................P115:235..........P121:341
Line......................04....................07
Line type...............Pool C..............Pool C
Terminals/Sets.......235.................341
Line Assignment.....Appear&Ring....Ring
LinePool Access C...Y....................Y
Prime Line..............I/C..................I/C
Intercom Keys........2....................2
Line pool C.............7....................7

All other sets granted Line access & LinePool Access C.

I have dial tones on both line 4 and line 7. Can complete a call from 824 to CICS extensions [ie. dialing 7234, display reports caller DN235]. From the CICS to the 824 I get a busy signal after dialing an extension on the 824 [ie. 7340]. Any ideas on how to successfully connect a call from the CICS to the 824?

Thanks.

Have you tested the ATA itself with your test set?
Is your Trunk 004 set to TONES and not PULSE?
Is the ATA set to Tones? F*809

Try the Internal ATA on the CICS as a test.
Try an old ATA for the old 8X24
Try swapping ATA's to see if ATA issue

Thanks for the response curlycord. I've benefitted much from your other posts in this forum.

I tested both ATA wit a test set. Dial tone present.
Trunk set to tones. F*809 set on both devices.

Will swap ATAs to test.

Thanks again.

So you got

824 ATA connected to a trunk port on CICS: from a 824 DN call ATA DN and rings on trunk port of the CICS, correct?

CICS ATA connected to a trunk port on 824: from a CICS DN call ATA DN and rings on trunk port of the 824, this on gives you busy singal?

That's right. 824 DN rings a DN on CICS. CICS DN gets busy signal when dialing 824 DN.

You can't ring a DN on the other system it must be a trunk port.

CICS ATA --------> 824 trunk port

824 ATA ---------> CICS trunk port

If you are getting a busy signal, it the local ATA providing it. That says the analog side of the of the ATA is busy (off hook or shorted pair). So on remote side you have either a trunk port problem or a cable issue. Remove the analog connection and see if you now get ring back.

Curlycord, thanks for the help. I switched ATAs but no change.

Allworxguy Thanks for your help. As it turns out, 824 DN capabilities set to external hotline was the problem. Removed the hotline setting and all worked well. Was able to successfully dial between two systems using line pool access code + DN extension.

I was referred to tek-tips for first rate help. I agree!
