Connecting analog phones to SX-200

Prior to an office move, we had several analog phones in use, but they were not needed in the new spaces. But now we do have a need for one, but no one here knows how they get connected to the phone system. In the old office, I only saw the analog phones connected to some ports on a patch panel. But not what those ports were connected to on the back side. I suspect something didn't make it with the move.

Anyone know what needs to be done?

System: Mitel SX-200 MX Controler

The MX controller can support analog sets and trunks itself via internal modules. Your analog phones were most likely plugged directly into the back of the controller.

There may be no i in team but there are three f's in fudge off.

on the mx the anolog station are on the amphenol on the white blue and the white orange pair

Hi, as mentioned, check the back of the controller and verify if there is an amphenol connector on it.

If there is, follow the cable to see (assuming bix) it goes.

Then log into the controller and verify that there is a bay/slot/cct under 1/13/3

If there is, this is a snippet from the tech manual (you can google mitel technician guide for it).

ONS/CLASS, DNIC and LS/CLASS ports
Cross connect the ONS, DNIC and LS/CLASS ports to lines at the
breakout box according to the Amphenol connector pin assignments in
table below.

Table 10: Amphenol Connector Pin Assignments
Pair(s) Circuit Type Bay/Slot/Circuit Default DN
1/26 and 2/27 ONS/CLASS 1/13/3, 1/13/4 200 and 201
3/28 and 4/29 ONS/CLASS 1/13/5, 1/13/6 Unassigned
5/30 Not Used
6/31 and 7/32 DNIC 1/13/1, 1/13/2 198 - SC 1000
199 - Subattendant
8/33 to 10/35 Not Used
11/36 to 16/41 LS/CLASS 1/13/7 - 1/13/12
17/42 to 22/47 LS/CLASS 1/13/13 - 1/13/18
23/48 to 25/50 Not Used

Notes:
1. ONS/CLASS ports do not support high-voltage messagewaiting
lamps.
2. Circuits 1/13/5 and 1/13/6 are on the Analog Option Board.
3. Trunks circuits 1/13/7 and 1/13/8 are System Fail Transfer
trunks. In the event of a system or power failure, the trunks
connect to ONS circuits 1/13/3 and 1/13/4 respectively.
4. ONS ports are not designed with the necessary safety protection
for off premise connections. ONS ports must not be used to
connect to off premise phones.

There is a large connector on the back, but nothing plugged into it. I suspect whoever disconnected it from the old office didn't bring the cable. :-(

There is a 1/13/3 (bay/slot/cct) under 'desktop device assignment' but not under 'system configuration'. 1/14/* is were the now-unused analog lines are defined.

So I guess I need something like:
or

But there are lots of wiring variations and I don't know which would be right -- if any.

you need to terminate the 25 pair amphenol on to a 66 block or 110 block. the top two pairs will be your analog ports

Hi,

If you are unsure of how to terminate and cross connect to the Mitel equipment, the best thing to do is hire a certified Mitel Vendor.

One service call can resolve this issue.

Alternately if you can get access to the old space, grab a bix rail that has the amphenol connector attached at the other end. In theory, you may see 2 bix rails in a metal frame that is attached to the wall or what not.

Mitel's term of "break out box" really confused me too.

If you can't do that then yes, just do as Telecomp mentioned, but its easy, just call it in and then arrange for pick up.

And altho you don't really need it, get a frame for it as well. More professional that way :)

Just outta curiosity, did you use to have some bays with a bunch of cards in them? In particular ONS cards? If so did they make it in the move and get reconnected to a punch down? You may already have what you need.

No on the ONS as far as I know. And definitely no chance of getting anything left behind. It has been ages now.

Hi, did you get this resolved? On ebay I found what might be considered a "break out box".

Never seen this before but it will make your task very easy.

Go ebay and put this number in the search: 280493399173

You will need an amphenol to amphenol cable but that will easy to find.
