Hi. My brother blew up my power supply box (?) and now I have to replace it. Does anyone know whether all power supplies are standardized, i.e. if I can safely connect the new one to my mobo without worrying about rearranging the tiny cords in the white plastic connector?

Thankful for any advice.

Yes, they are standardized. But take the old one to verify that you have the same connectors on the new one. Some have different size m/b connectors and a different number of drive connectors. The new one should have the same number and type that are used on the old one. Any extras on the new are not important but you need duplicats of all the used ones.

And then cross your fingers and hope the old PSU didn't take anything with it when it blew (typically hard drives, Cdroms, sometimes motherboards, one or all)

How did he manage to "blow up" the power supply? You should research and find out before you "blow up" the new one!

Thanks for the tips, guys. I still have problems, though.

I connected the new PSU but the computer won't start. The lights on the mobo goes on (from connecting the PSU) but pressing the start button does nothing. No fans, no beeps, no new lights, no nothing. Could the mobo have been damaged? How do I know? Both the old and the new PSUs are on 300 W, so there should be enough power.

There was a fuse in the old PSU, but it didn't blow. Instead some other component looks all burned.

micker377, I moved to back to Sweden from Taiwan, shipping my computer ahead. My brother unpacked it and turned it on without changing the voltage. Kaboom.

This is pretty bad.
Try pulling off the power cords to the CDroms and Hard drive.
Do the fans spin now? if so look at the circuitry on the HDD, typically you may see a burn't (pit mark) on one of the controller chips.
Let us know how you go.
