Hi

I've got 6 Superstack 3300's connected with 2 Matrix modules in two groupings (4 switches in one group and 2 in another). All have the latest firmware 2.69 installed). Since a recent power failure, the switches "Hang" and all network resources become unavailable to uses. We have to manually re-boot the switches and then they are fine for maybe a couple of hours. I'm swapping a switch I believe to be faulty with a new one but also want to remove the Matrix modules from the mix.

How can I connect the switches without Matrix modules? Can I just use crossover cable and connect them port to port?

Yes, Crossover cables will work port to port.

Hi Pete,

I got more or less the same config you got:

7 3com superstack II 3300 24pt
2 matrix modules
2 resultant stacks: 1x4 units - 1x3 units

The 2 stacks are connected via a 4 port trunk and now I wanted to go for Copper Gigabit, so I asked 3com if it was
possible to install 2 1000Base-T modules in one of the units
in the stacks (1xstack).

They said no prob and suggested me to upgrade to latest firmware (2.69) before doing the config change.

I upgraded the 3300s via tftp and the upgrade routine
went through all of the units in the stack automatically.

This is not the case if you do a serial update.

Any chances some of your units aren't running 2.69?

Ciao

Hi All

Thanks for the help and advice. I got a couple of new Matrix modules off 3Com (They replaced them for free!) and reconfigured the stacks into 2 sets of 3 switches. They've been running fine for about 48 hours now so hopefully the problem is sorted.

Thanks again

Pete
