Connect to the internet using MSComm

hi,

I want to connect to the internet using MSComm control
i have managed to dial the number to the ISP provider that is very easy but what next.
How do i send the user name and password on establishing contact.
Well any ideas, suggestions , reference material links, books on the above subject please do care to write in.
Well i do not want to use the API's right now although i know that it can be done that way.
