Can a lytec backup database file (for example mydb.bak) be opened by a generic sql server lke mssql server 2008 or mysql?

Hi,
a test is worth a thousand theories..Have you tried?

It is Sql Server database in Lytec so any tool that can read Sql Server data should work.

well, please dont laugh... but i dont know how to open a .bak file that lytec generates....in mssql or mysql. I guess i need the mdf file. how do i open either of these filetypes with mssql?

Hi,
Try renaming a copy of the .bak file to a .mdf extension and it may work with MsSql or MySql.

( Just on a copy please in case it fails - which it might).

You will probably need to restore a local version of MS SQL using the .bak file.

Then create an ODBC connection to the new local DB and then Crystal can use that connection.

Don't ask me how to do the restore, but there is a MS SQL forum on here and I am sure they will be able to help you.
